Go Outside.

Everything here is as it was when I hit the trigger, no crops, no edits, and no photoshop. Summer 2012 I challenged myself to the task of taking the best photos I could, banning myself from entering the 'lightroom' afterwards to edit them. This is what I came up with.

Early morning, Bermuda, the lines of colour in the sky were mirrored by the sea and stretched right out to my feet.

By about the 5th day I was timing it right, the colour was all blue until that brief 15 minute window before dawn broke.

This morning was so humid my hand was steaming up the lens so I had to put on a 10 second timer and stand out the way!

Got to it a little earlier on this day, managed to get something like what I was aiming for. The dawn only gives you a 15 minute window between when it's too dark and too light, took a good few days to work out the best camera settings to use.

I left it too late to get the exposure righton this day- when the sun comes up in Bermuda it comes up hot and bright, anything after 6.30am and a slow shutter burns out.

The colours that come from the leaves of this plant are beautiful, my aunt puts them in vases instead of the flowers! I should have widened the aperture to fade the background out some more though.

This web was so low to the ground that I couldn't help but get some of the background in, kind of wish I had put cheek to the floor and gone for a full sky background in retrospect. There were quite a few other spider webs close by though, and I didn't fancy doing the 'spider in my hair' dance at 7am in the morning.

The tree frogs were so loud, and all the plants smelt fresh. It made being soaked feel better.

After about an hour of dodging water droplets, fighting burning arm muscles, and testing my patience with gravity I started getting the shots I was after. Perseverance won this round.

A journey not so easily traveled.

I traveled from the UK to NYC to meet with a group of LGBT girls, I took many photos of the journey, and I left with a wider knowledge of how people manage homophobia and self acceptance in a world still marred by ignorance and homophobia. Here follows some of the images that I hope will draw you in to a way of life often kept hidden from wider society, and show you a few moments in the lives of others who still deal with this prejudice in their everyday lives.

Editor's Brief: Rising

I can't tell you how windy it was on top of this tor, my hat blew off (from inside my hood), my tripod went crashing over countless times and moved about so much most of the pictures suffered, my coffee, when I poured it, blew right out of the cup! It was a steep climb and a windy summit, but when the clouds split open and the rising sun poured through I was expecting the into to The Lion King to start playing. A beautiful sight, and although I was freezing cold the whole time (except for the steep climb up in which I boiled) I would recommend an early morning moorland wander to anyone. Cleared my mind a treat.
